Ludlow and Fakenham off

This afternoon’s meeting at Ludlow has been abandoned due to a frozen track, while Fakenham is off due to snow.

Officials were due to inspect the course at 8am but they were able to make an early decision to call off the meeting after temperatures dropped below freezing overnight.

The track tweeted: “Unfortunately racing at Ludlow today has been abandoned. Course is frozen and temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until after midday.”

Meanwhile his afternoon’s meeting at Fakenham has been abandoned following a 7am inspection.

Clerk of the course David Hunter reports snow to have fallen at the track overnight and does not expect the ground to to raceable even once the snow has melted.

He said: “I’m afraid we won’t be racing today.

“We have had five centimetres of snow and while we feel that will melt, there are just too many areas of false ground on the course, and melting snow will only make that worse.”

Fairyhouse on

This afternoon’s meeting at Fairyhouse goes ahead after the track passed a precautionary inspection.

Officials at the County Meath circuit were concerned by the threat of overnight frost but report the course to be fit for action.

Horse Racing Ireland tweeted: “Fairyhouse will go ahead today following a course inspection. The ground is currently soft to heavy, heavy in places.”
