WWE SmackDown: WWE title picture widens at Fastlane

WWE SmackDown: WWE title picture widens at Fastlane

Baron Corbin defeated Kevin Owens to join the WWE Title Match at WWE Fastlane.

Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin will challenge for the WWE Championship at Fastlane in four weeks’ time, after defeating Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens on SmackDown.

The pair were initially set to square off in singles competition with one place in Fastlane’s title match up for grabs, but after Zayn and Owens interrupted before the match had even started, SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon arrived to sanction two more singles matches – Corbin v Owens and Ziggler v Zayn.

The ‘Yep!’ Movement would pay for their actions, as Shane O Mac stipulated that victory for Corbin and/or Ziggler would see them added to Fastlane’s triple-threat match between Zayn, Owens and WWE Champion AJ Styles, and that any interference from Owens or Zayn would cost them their place in the match.

Corbin seized his opportunity, hitting an End of Days to put KO down for the three-count. And after Ziggler nailed Zayn with a picture-perfect super-kick, Styles will now defend his WWE title in a Fatal-5-Way match.

Charlotte Flair defeated Sarah Logan after beating Liv Morgan last week, leaving just Ruby Riott from the Riott Squad.

Flair’s vengeance continues

Fresh from her victory against Liv Morgan on last week’s episode, Charlotte ticked off another member of The Riott Squad, this time defeating Sarah Logan.

With Becky Lynch and Naomi ringside to keep watch on Logan’s Riott Squad allies Ruby Riott and Morgan, the SmackDown Women’s champion caught Logan with Natural Selection, picking up the win and declaring she had just “one to go”.

Orton and Mahal challenge Roode

Bobby Roode has not taken kindly to Randy Orton’s sneak attack last week. The United States Champion issued an open challenge to the SmackDown locker room, but made it quite clear he had one man on his mind. But just as Orton was about to answer the challenge, Jinder Mahal arrived to interrupt proceedings.

Tensions boiled over when Orton nailed Mahal’s sidekick Sunil with an RKO, before eating a wicked haymaker from Roode. Mahal seized the opening, hitting both Roode and Orton with the Khallas.

Gable & Benjamin’s momentum halts

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin’s quest to punish the SmackDown tag team division, who they claim do not take in-ring competition seriously, came to a halt when they fell to The New Day.

Angered at Big E’s attempt to break the all-time pancake eating record, the self-proclaimed “Weapons of Tag Destruction” took the fight to the former SmackDown tag team champions.

But Big E and Kofi Kingston would have the last laugh, putting down Gable with Midnight Hour.
